Grab the Attention with Social Media
On Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and all the other applications I open, I see brands with their marketing posts. We live in a world where internet is the new place where companies can grab the attention from their customers.
But is it relevant for companies to spread their information through social media? In a recent report, eMarketer said digital marketing is expected to overtake TV advertising in total dollar spending in 2017 for the first time, with recent and future growth fueled mainly by mobile and video sectors (Emarketer, 2015).
Online marketing instead of TV advertising
There are a few differences between TV advertising and online marketing (Seldon, 2016):
Cost savings – using social media instead of a traditional Public Relations company safes money for other things in your company. You can achieve a lot more on social media when you reach many people.
Targeted – online marketing has the capability to focus on a specific group more easily than TV advertising. Companies can send targeted information to customers who are interested in one specific part of a brand.
Flexibility – using marketing techniques online provides a level of flexibility that does not exist in any other medium. A business can literally make changes in a matter of minutes to a specific advertisement, content correction or adjust an entire marketing campaign.
Tracking – while television advertising has some reporting and analytics capabilities, the online campaigns can have almost every action tracked and analyzed. From the number of emails that were opened to the number of clicks on a website or searches on Google. Companies can use online analytics to find out how their target market reacts to different approaches.
Feedback – a simple click or a few words in a comment can provide you pricesless information on how visitors are reacting to your online posts. When a Facebook post is online, the comment section is a very approachable way for people to express their opinion. Television is one way traffic what makes it more difficult/calls for more effort for customers to give their opinion.
For example the royal Dutch Airline company KLM. This is a company who uses social media very well in my opinion. KLM responds to almost every reaction they get on their Facebookpage in a funny way. I think that it is very important to be funny and helpful to your clients. In this way your customers will be more involved with your brand. The company is also 24/7 online, so they are able to answer questions whenever you want.
So, I understand that not every company has enough space and money to be like KLM. But to keep in touch with your clients on a funny but also a helpful way, is in my opinion a very special part of a company.
